Obituary of Thomas L. Saracene

Age 93 passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Elcor Health Services. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Philomena (Mucci) Saracene who died on October 27, 2014. Tom was the last surviving of six siblings; Tony, Viola, Mary, Virginia and Anna. Tom is survived by son and daughter-in-law Stephen L. and Lisbeth "Betsy" Saracene of Penfield NY with their children, Todd Nash, Stacey and Lauren Saracene; daughter and son-in-law Nancy A. and Craig Heffner of Horseheads with children, Scott Heffner, and Stephanie (Michael) Vormwald; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Shirley Mucci of Elmira; brother-in-law Michael Cerio of Elmira; along with several nieces and nephews. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran. He served in several European campaigns during WW II, was awarded a Purple Heart medal and also received a Bronze Star medal for distinguished service in France, January 1945. Tom was retired from the Chemung County Sewer District. He was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Tom was also a life time member of the Italian American Veterans Club. He was avid golfer, bowler, bocce player and horseshoe player. Tom loved working in his yard and was an avid gardener. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to Tom's Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Elmira. Interment with committal prayers will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Tom with a donation to a charity of one's choice.
