"Howie" Age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Howie was born on July 15, 1933 in Rochester NY, son of Frederick and Carmel Coyle Lapple. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Louise Kraus Lapple and brother Gerald Lapple. Howie is survived by his children, Susan Hunt with husband Lenny of Clarksville MD, Christine Manuel with husband Daniel "Bo" of Elmira, James Lapple with partner Felix Crespo of New York City; grandchildren, Eric Cicora with wife Christine, Kyle Cicora with wife Christa, Kalla Hunt, Christy Hunt, Patrick Manuel with wife Jill, Zachary Manuel and Caley Manuel with fiancé Trevor Dougherty; great grandchildren, Emma and Scarlet Cicora, Jackson and Cooper Manuel, Quinn Cicora; brother, Frederick Lapple with wife Jean of Rochester, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Franz and Maria Kraus of Rochester, Ollie Lapple of North Carolina; close friend Scott Bullock; several nieces and nephews. Howie was a U S Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He was in sales throughout his career including district manager at both, John Morrell and Tobin Packing Company. He was active in politics serving on the Elmira Town Board and then as Town of Elmira Supervisor. He was also active in the community serving as a member, and former Assistant Chief, of the West Elmira Fire Department. Howie had a lifelong love of sports. He was an avid golfer at the Elmira Country Club, active at the Downtown Health Club, and a coach of various softball teams including the West Elmira Athletic Club. Howie was a member of the Elmira Elks and a long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Howie with a donation to either, Alzheimer's Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620 or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Ave., Elmira NY 14904.
