Obituary of Constance A. Eckel

Age 92, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015. A resident of The Brewster House, Homer NY, she had previously been a longtime resident of Cortland. Constance was born in Niagara Falls NY on April 3, 1922, the daughter of the late G. Clyde and Emily Bartlett. She was also predeceased by her sister Marion Bartlett Boyd of Pittsburgh PA. Constance is survived by her children, Dr. Peter (Anne) Eckel of Vero Beach FL, Barbara Pauline "Polly" (Steven) Percy of Akron OH, Dr. John Eckel (Shirley Murphy) of Saranac Lake NY, Timothy (Mary Jane) Eckel of Elmira NY; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Constance was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and earned a nursing degree from Russell Sage College, Troy NY. During her years in Cortland she served on the YWCA Board and was a member of the Ladies Literary Club. For over 60 years she was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church where she was a member of the choir, St. Elizabeth Guild, Altar Guild and had served on the Vestry. She enjoyed working in her garden, entertaining on her back porch, having a cup of tea and playing Bridge with her friends. Services will be held at Grace and Holy Spirit Church, 13 Court Street, Cortland on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Constance can be made to Grace and Holy Spirit Church or The Elizabeth Brewster House, 41 South Main Street, Homer NY 13077.
