Obituary of Yuriko Tsutsumi Wetmore

Age 89, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017. Yuriko was born in Kyoto, Japan on March 7, 1928. She met her future husband, Alfred A. Wetmore, while he was stationed in Japan recovering from wounds he suffered in Korea while serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Yuriko was admitted to the United States pursuant to a U.S. Congressional Act in 1952, and thus joined Alfred shortly after he returned from his war duty. They were married and together raised four children. Yuriko was predeceased by Alfred and also by her longtime friend and companion Bill Leye. Yuriko is survived by her children and their spouses: Weeden A. and Bridget A. Wetmore of Horseheads, William C. Wetmore of Santa Rosa CA, David W. and Kathy Wetmore of Pensacola FL, Adrienne M. Wetmore and her husband Scott Lindberg of Boston MA; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and close friend Irene Plosky of Seattle WA. Yuriko moved from Toms River NJ to Horseheads, three years ago, to be closer to family. Residing at Appleridge, Yuriko enjoyed living there and making many new friends. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will then take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
